~ gray mosaic bathroom
The big trend for bathrooms, a study done by Houzz, is Gray. It's replacing white with something different ~ and it's as popular here as the rest of the house. Not surprisingly 32% of homeowners prefer gray walls and the color white came in only at 21% of the vote. It also beat out the color for the floors. Benjamin Moore's new color Metropolitan AF-690, a pale gray with a cool greenish undertone is it's color of the year.
I've been searching the internet for days trying to find the right gray and concept for this bathroom.
Every other contractor will simply use the marble mosaic in any shape or form ~ and usually in the most easiest format. Although it's a wonderful sophisticated look that's timeless, it also is hard to maintain and becomes predictable and common.
I'm trying to think outside the box on a tight budget.
The theme of the house is INDUSTRIAL FARMHOUSE - and that's not marble.
I'm trying to recreate something that Joanna Gaines or Leanne Ford would bring to the table.
This photo made me think of an idea.
Note: the mosaic continues on the same wall inside and outside the shower.
I know it's probably a trend ~ these large mosaic tiles ~ but what if we found something softer in tone.
While watching HGTV ~ Music City Flip ~ they actually showed several bathrooms using this tile concept.
This would make me dizzy every time I took a shower. But I like the use of the gold fixtures.
The key is a lot of white - and a neutral floor the same tone as the gray mosaic tiles. The master bathroom is quite large to use the pattern - so they are able to anchor it with the bold BoHo color combinations and black vanities.
This bathroom is smaller so that the vanities are a light gray wood ~ matching the tone again in the tiles. Fun is that there are 2 vanities and not a large 2 sink vanity.

I used the same idea on my lanai wall.
My tiles are 12 x 12 pattern.

I finally found an old world tile!
These tiles are 8 x 8.
The tile is porcelain - and only $3.99 sq ft.
The tiles are 24 x 24" porcelain ~ each tile has 9 patterns. You would need - 5 tiles going across and 4 going down = about 20 tiles for about $350.
The also have a 24 x 24 that looks like a light gray cement.

Basic Cement Silver 24x24 Matte Porcelain Tile
BUT THE BRICK has to be painted white.
I know it looks dark but I think with white subway tiles, white brick, white tub, and possibly white walls ~ it will anchor the gray.
Also the white lines are throwing it off - the grout will match so the tiles blend seamlessly together.

Perfectly mimicking the textured look of poured concrete in a durable porcelain format, Basic Cement captures the same industrial essence at a much more budget friendly price point. Ideal for residential or commercial projects, Basic is a modern take on the raw, gritty characteristics of actual Cement.
The gray tile we chose might not go with this.
Question: if the tub is inside the shower - do we need an overflow valve? I'm thinking we don't. Prices above were during Black Friday sale of 10%. They are no longer on sale.

71" Providence Double Cabinet, Driftwood, No Top $1,885
I know it's expensive - but I love the look. Plus there's about $200 for shipping.
Whatever counter you use in the kitchen - get a piece and use it on this. You will also need a piece for the threshold of the shower - and the top of the pony wall.
You could save money and go with a preassembled gray one and save about $500.
