~ small guest bathroom
I don't always purchase the cheapest - because if you take the time to read reviews - sometimes they're not worth the trouble or money spent. My piece of mind is that I achieved a quality look with a quality product that will last for the next person that lives there.
For a few $ Hundred dollars more you can achieve this.
Love the old world charm of the black vanity with the black and white flooring. The round gold mirror is retro now and it's highlighted with the bold wallpaper.
Black vanity ~ gold accents ~ marble top....
This is the St James model - but it's made with poplar, birch and MDF. It has the lines of the above vanity.
This is what I learned about MDF.
MDF is denser than plywood, and is used all over the furnishing industry. It is NOT to be confused with plywood. ... MDF is commonly found in cheaper vanity cabinets, and although it is usually fine, it's not the best choice for your bathroom. It's best to keep your MDF cabinets in the kitchen and other drier environments.
It's also on sale at $1328 here.
We could use this one and change out the knobs to gold and the faucet ~ matching the shower fixtures. It's lines are more Arts and Crafts. But we can change out the knobs to gold to match the gold in the room. It has the marble top.
Stockbridge Birch Lane 36" with carrara marble. Don't know how thick. $1363
With these images....
I'm going to tweak it a bit and try to modernize it. Maybe I'm wrong but not everyone likes the retro throw backs... so lets' mix it up.
This tile has 5 stars! from over 200 users ~ which means it's well received.
Kenzzi Paloma 8" x 8" Porcelain in White $6.56 sq ft
We need 52 sq ft of tile x $6.56 = $341

If I add penny tile - it repeats the Master.
The Vanity area will look so nice - we don't need to do much with the shower for accents.
TUB TILE
LOWES American Olean 3 x 6 simple High Gloss White Subway tile
$.18 each
Surrounding the tub 32" + 60" + 32" = 124" divided by 6" tile = 21 tiles across
Downward = about 76" of tile divided by 3" = 26 tiles down
So: 21 tiles x 26 tiles = 546 tiles. @ $.18 = $98.28
These are on sale now - they were $.22 each.
Bull nose too: 28 tiles.
Now you know why subway tile has become so popular. It's SO INEXPENSIVE ~ this is about $1.08 a sq ft. However, it takes some labor.
Then we need a bull nose for the edges. There are 2 edges about 84" divided by 6" = 14 tiles x 2 edges = 28 tiles
American Olean Starting Line White Gloss Ceramic Bullnose Tile 2 x 6 LOWE'S @ $.59
30 x $.59 = $17.70
Surrounding the tub area is 124" divided by 12" = 11 pieces. These are not cheap but I like to use the accent ~ some people feel it's not necessary. The vanity is black so this will repeat that.
I don't like the reviews at the Big Box stores so I tried Wayfair @ $6.89.
11 tiles @ $6.89 = $75.79
Black Penny Tile $10.33 sq ft.
We need 6 sheets @ $10.33 = $61.98
TILE
75.60 subway
17.79 bullnose
75.79 black liner
61.98 penny
$231 total tile / 69 sq ft = $3.35 sq ft. cost
That's a good deal.
Let's keep the price down on tile - so we can purchase a better vanity.
concept - for a little more we can add some color.
It's only 6" - 1/2 of the 12 x 12
Let's save the money and get the sconce and shower curtain.
Because I'm using the Kenzzi tile and not a marble basket weave (that we wanted) ~ we've saved $269.
I went with the Polished brass for this room because it's still a 2019 trend. I would like to make a small bathroom somewhat updated.
