More Lighting Selections

Kitchen Island

Ceiling is 106" High
The light needs to be 36" above the counter height therefore 30" above the bar height.

We need the bottom of the fixture to hit at 72" - leaving us 34" for the fixure

We are looking for 12" wide.

I’ve been working with my son for the last 9 months refurbishing a 1890’s Row House in Pittsburgh.  Many of these pages are for our reference. Daily, I search the internet and place our finds and thoughts here to communicate to each other. Our other way of communicating is via What’s App ~ we can sit and write to each other and throw information back and forth quickly.  Hopefully, some of this will help you too.

I wrote a blog last week about lighting ~ but I'm designing from Florida for the project in Pittsburgh.  When I arrived here this week ~ we reworked our selections.  My son wants this to be more industrial and retro ~ I just want it to be on budget and salable when the time comes.

So I went junking and lucked out on something actually period appropriate with a little bling.

A pair of antique lanterns for $150.
I'm spray painting a satin or matte black - needed several coats.  And now I have to find the canopies for them to hang from the ceiling.

I'll need 3 of these.

Above the vanity below...
This should be enough light ~ so the ceiling fan doesn't need one. We didn't want a fixture that had exposed light bulbs because the room is so small, and I would say that 85% are that way.  This keeps it contemporary with the vanity...

UPSTAIRS LANDING
Area: 68"wide x 34 deep
about 28-30" from wall.  Not centered.
So we need 1/2 of the distance x 2 = 28 - 30" wide.

20" drop of ceiling.

For $25 I found this old lantern ~ I'll spray the body black, but keep the white candles and shine up the brass shades.  This will keep the theme of antique gold/black/white that is being used around the house. There's a nice surprise on this piece ~ a spot light on the bottom of the center tube.
